Sonja & Gary’s Fall Family Photos
Every year I meet Sonja, Gary and their kids for fall family photos in Chanhassen or Victoria. Our location depends on where the fall colors are best, and also on the weather. It’s a tradition, and I love it. We talk about what’s new, we walk the park, and no matter how stubborn the kids are feeling we always get enough great shots for their family holiday cards. This year we did morning fall family photos at Lake Ann.
I often tell people I specialize in location and outdoor portraits. Certainly, you could call this environmental portraiture too. I believe there’s both art and science to shooting portraits outside of the studio. Is it a little chillier outside in the fall? Yes. However, over the years I found when you have kids who are active, being outside is a really good option. We spend time during the photo shoot making photos. We also spend some time letting the kids be kids and run around a little. There’s no need to worry about them going off the backdrop or hiding in a corner. Those things are eliminated with outdoor location portraits. Our photography during these fall family photo shoots outside becomes a very natural feeling scene. You have a portrait of your family’s relationship as well as how the kids look at a certain age.

Smiles and interaction between parents and kids add a new dimension to family photos. Unposed portraits are perfectly imperfect, and take the pressure off kids to “sit still and look at the photographer”.

During your fall family photos, I do both posed and unposed pictures to give you some variety.

I’m a wedding and portrait photographer in the Southwest Twin Cities Metro. If you’re looking for outdoor fall family photos in the Chanhassen area you can email me here, and I’ll send you info on booking.
