Wedding & Portrait FAQ
How soon should we book?
Weddings: As soon as your wedding date is confirmed (up to 18 months in advance) you should book. All dates are first come first served. To reserve your wedding day a 25% non-refundable reservation fee and signed wedding contract are needed.
Portraits: 1-2 weeks in advance is best for booking your portraits. To reserve your shoot date a $100 reservation fee and a signed portrait agreement are needed
What will you photograph at my wedding?
I want to tell the complete story of your wedding day including preparations, portraits, your ceremony, and fun reception shots of your guests celebrating with you. I want to photograph the people and details that are important to you. Couples who work with me describe their pictures as a mix of portraits and documentary photography, with attention to your personal details.
What do you mean when you say you’re an inclusive photographer?
It means I photograph all kinds of weddings, for all kinds of couples and want to represent them all on my website. It means your wedding is important to me because it’s authentically yours.
What if it rains, snows, is very bright or dark during my wedding?
I enjoy the variety of opportunities for creative solutions at weddings. I have solutions for all of these situations, a plan B (and C, and D!) and encouraging words to help you in front of the camera.
What gear will you use to photograph my wedding?
Professional Canon cameras and lenses. I also have both on and off-camera flashes for dark receptions or nighttime portraits.
Do you travel? Yes!
Weddings: Travel within Minneapolis, St. Paul, Stillwater, St. Cloud, and Mankato areas is included in your package. I’m happy to take a trip to the North Shore, or travel to you anywhere in the continental United States with a wedding travel package.
Portraits: I travel in the Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Mankato area for portraits. If you need portraits somewhere else a custom travel portrait package is available.
Do You Edit Our Photos?
Yes. Photographs are edited before I deliver them to you. This includes choosing which shots are the best, adjusting exposure & color correction, artistic edits, determinin which pictures look best in black and white, and light skin softening if needed.
How many wedding pictures do we get?
My goal is to create a collection of photographs that tell the story of your wedding day. The number of pictures you receive will depend on how long I’m shooting and what kinds of events or portraits we capture during the wedding. Each wedding is different, and I don’t limit myself on how many pictures to deliver.
Will you do our engagement shoot?
If you want me to, yes! Weddings packages include a pre-wedding shoot. If you need engagement pictures, we’ll do those. If you already have engagement pictures we can do a short shoot so you can experience working with me.
How experienced are you?
I have almost 10 years of experience as a professional photographer. Since mid-2012 I’ve been a full-time photography business owner. Before that, I worked in a corporate studio and as a commercial assistant. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. If your location requests proof of insurance I’m happy to send it.
Do I need a second photographer?
A second photographer is an option that can increase the number of photographs you get, make portraits go faster, and give you more opportunities to capture details at large weddings. I also am experienced at shooting weddings alone. It’s best to talk to me about which choice is right for you.
Can we print our photos?
Yes. Please print your photos! I give you a full release to print your pictures. Many of my customers love DIY projects and want to print themselves.
Files are high resolution, with no watermarks. Your online gallery is designed to be shared. Your relatives and friends can also print pictures when you invite them to your gallery.
If you don’t want to print yourself I can help you order professional prints online, by email, or phone.
When will we get our photos back?
Weddings are delivered in 8-10 weeks.
Engagements & portraits take about 3 weeks.
I spend time doing hand edits on each individual picture. I want to make sure you receive the very best edits possible.
Do You Have Options for Save The Dates or photo cards?
Yes. I partner with a custom stationery printer. You can order Save The Dates or photo cards with envelopes included after your pictures are delivered to you.
How does album design work?
Albums are available for both weddings and portraits. The time it takes from starting the design to delivering your finished album depends on how many edits you do. Once the album is sent to print you’ll receive it in 1-2 weeks.
