Wedding FAQ

How soon should we book you?

As soon as your wedding date is confirmed you should book.  All dates are first come first served.  To reserve your wedding day a 20% retainer and signed wedding contract is needed.  I have couples who book more than 18 months in advance, and some who booked me a month before the wedding.

What will you photograph at my wedding?

I want to tell the complete story of your wedding day, including portraits, your ceremony, and really great reception shots celebrating your marriage.  I want to photograph the people and details that are important to you.  People who work with me describe their pictures as a mix of modern portraits and documentary photography, with attention to your personal details.

What’s do you mean when you say you’re an inclusive photographer?  

It means I photograph all kinds of weddings, for all kinds of couples and want to represent them all on my website.  It means your wedding is important to me because it’s uniquely yours.

What if it rains, snows, is too bright or too dark during my wedding?  

I enjoy the variety of opportunities for creative solutions at weddings.  I have solutions for all of these situations, a plan B (and C, and D!) and encouraging words to help you in front of the camera.

What gear will you use to photograph my wedding?

I use professional Canon cameras and lenses.  I also have both on and off camera flashes for dark receptions or nighttime portraits.

Do you travel?

Yes!  Travel within Minneapolis, St. Paul, Stillwater, St. Cloud, and Mankato areas is included for all weddings. I’m happy to take a trip to the North Shore, or travel to you anywhere in the continental United States.

Do You Edit Our Photos?

I will edit your photographs before I deliver them to you.  This includes choosing which shots are the best at telling your story, adjusting exposure & color correction, artistic edits, creating black and white pictures, and light skin softening if needed.

Do I own the copyright to my photography?

I retain copyright to your pictures and give you a release to use them, including permission to print as well as post on social media.

How many pictures do we get?

My goal is to create a collection of photographs that tell the story of your wedding day.  The number of pictures you receive will depend on how long I’m shooting and what kinds of events or portraits we capture during the wedding.  Each wedding is different, and I don’t limit myself on how many pictures to deliver.

Will you do our engagement shoot?

If you want me to, yes!  Most weddings packages include a pre-wedding shoot.  If you need engagement pictures, we will do those.  If you already have engagement pictures we can do a short shoot so you can experience working with me.

How experienced are you?

I have almost 10 years experience as a professional photographer.  Since mid-2012 I’ve been a full-time photography business owner.  Before that, I worked in a corporate studio.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications.

Do you have insurance?

Yes.  If your location requests proof of insurance I’m happy to send it.

Can we print our photos?

Yes.  Please print your photos!  I give you a full release to print your pictures.  Files are high resolution, with no watermarks. Your online gallery is designed to be shared.  Your relatives and friends can also print pictures when you invite them to your gallery.   You are able to order professional prints directly from your gallery.

When will we get our photos back?

Weddings are delivered in 8-10 weeks.   Engagements and portraits take 2-3 weeks.  I take the time to look at each individual photo when I edit and want to make sure you receive the very best edits on your pictures.

Do You Have Options for Save The Dates?

Yes.  You can order Save The Dates, with envelopes included, after your engagement shoot.

How does album design work?

Albums and photo books are available for both weddings and portraits.  The time it takes from starting the design to delivering your finished album depends on how many edits you do.  Once the album is sent to print you’ll receive it in 1-2 weeks.

Can we see your wedding photography timeline?

Every wedding is different, and I follow your schedule.  Together we will plan how your photography fits into your wedding day.  I will ask you lots of questions to get a feel for the flow of your day so we’re all prepared for the photography.  We’ll have a final planning meeting about 1 month before your wedding.

Will you plan our wedding?

We plan your wedding photography together because that’s what I’m best at.  I devote personal time to you during your wedding planning.  This includes phone calls, in-person meetings and emails whenever you need them.  I can give you advice, vendor suggestions, and examples of what has worked for couples with similar weddings.  On the day of your wedding, I will do everything I can to make sure you have an amazing experience.  However, if you feel you need someone to plan and coordinate your entire wedding I can help you connect with some excellent wedding planners.
