A Ghost Tour Might Be the Perfect St. Paul Date Night
Why a Ghost Tour Might Be the Perfect St. Paul Date Night you didn’t know you needed.
Looking to shake up your usual St. Paul date night routine? Skip the crowded restaurants and predictable Netflix binges. If you’re in the Twin Cities and want a date that’s a little bit spooky, a little bit educational, and very fun I suggest a St. Paul ghost tour with US Ghost Adventures.
A St. Paul Date Night That’s Anything but Boring
Let’s face it—coming up with fresh date night ideas can be challenging. That’s where a ghost tour comes in. It’s interactive, it gets you walking around the city, and it gives you something to talk (or laugh) about for days. Whether you believe in ghosts or just enjoy a good story, this is an experience that gets you out of your comfort zone in the best way.
Why Choose a Ghost Tour for your St. Paul date night?
- It’s a unique bonding experience
- A great conversation starter for newer couples.
- Good for couples who love history, the supernatural, or just walking around the city
- It’s interactive and breaks the routine.

What to Expect on Your US Ghost Adventures Tour
US Ghost Adventures offers guided walks through part of Summit Avenue near Capitol Hill. Most tours last 60 minutes and combine historical facts with local history and legends.
You’ll visit historic buildings, hear about mysterious disappearances, and learn the surprising histories behind some of St. Paul’s most historic Summit Avenue mansions. It’s not a haunted house style experience—no one jumps out at you and no one’s in costume—but it is the kind of thing that’ll make you side-eye a flickering street light at the end of a dark alley.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous you can add on a bonus tour after the main tour. My husband and I did this, and really enjoyed. It gave us a chance to have a more personalized experience. Our full tour group was over 15 people, but the bonus tour only had four people, us and two others.
The stories told on the tour are history based accounts of the properties in the neighborhood, and sightings of ghosts, with a few local legends and true crime sprinkled in. The mood of the tour is mostly educational and meant to be a little bit spooky. My husband and I didn’t think it was spooky at all, but then again we’re pretty much fearless. We don’t spook easily.
The tour starts and ends at Forepaugh’s Second Mansion at 302 Summit Ave. This is a walking tour. You’ll walk about 1 mile in 1 hour. If you opt in for the extended tour, you’ll walk an extra half mile in 30 minutes.
Favorite highlights of our ghost tour:
Before the tour even officially began, I had a surprising moment when I spotted what looked like a figure watching us from the window of Forepaugh’s second mansion. One of my favorite parts was learning about the F. Scott Fitzgerald house, which really stood out among the stories shared.
Beyond the spooky details, my husband and I walked away with a much deeper appreciation for St. Paul’s history, especially around the Summit Avenue neighborhood, which we hadn’t known much about before.

The Date Night Factor
This tour leans more toward fun than romantic, since it’s a group experience shared with others, but that also makes it perfect to turn into a group date with friends.
It’s a great experience for couples who are a little weird (in the best way), love ghosts and history, or want a date night that’s a shared experience instead of the usual dinner and drinks.
It works well for a first date—you don’t have to worry about awkward silences because the tour itself gives you plenty to talk about afterward. For couples who are already comfortable, it’s a great way to break from your usual routine and enjoy something different together.
Architecture lovers will also appreciate the chance to get photos of the historic homes along the route, though you’ll stay on the sidewalks and streets since the houses are privately owned and not open to the public.
Tips for the Best US Ghost Adventures Tour Experience on your St. Paul Date Night
- What to wear—The tour is a mile, and you’ll be walking on sidewalks which can be uneven, so wear comfy shoes, and for sure bring a jacket or warmer layer for those chilly evenings.
- Book in advance especially in fall—September and October dates fill up fast.
- Bring your phone (on silent) for fun photography opportunites. The old architecture makes a great backdrop.
- Accessability: Since the tour stays on sidewalks it’s completely wheelchair and stroller accessible. There aren’t any age restrictions, the tour is appropriate for all ages, however take into consideration whether your kids will be able to walk 1 mile in 1 hour.
Final Thoughts on a ghost tour date night in St. Paul, Mn
If you’re into quirky and unique date night ideas in St. Paul, MN—a ghost tour absolutely delivers. It’s local. It’s low-key adventurous. Maybe a little spooky. And it will be the most memorable date you’ve had in a while.
My husband and I both rate the tour 5 out of 5 stars. We’re people who enjoy getting outdoors, walking, exploring St. Paul, learning about history and hearing ghost stories. Our tour guide was fabulous, and we had a great time.
Bonus Ideas
You can extend your St. Paul date night by booking the tour upgrade, which dives deeper into the ghost stories of St. Paul. My husband and I did this, and it gave us the chance to see some additional locations.
For an extra touch of fun, you can rent an EMF meter through US Ghost Adventures to use along the way. One pair of friends in our group did this, and I wish we would have because it looked really fun to watch the meter and see the lights going off with EMF fluctuations.
