New Prague Senior Pictures at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

My mission for this New Prague senior session was to photograph Bridget with wildflowers.  In September the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is the best place in the Minneapolis area to find flowers of all kinds.  I enjoy doing portrait sessions at the arb because it’s not complex.     I can quickly find the perfect spot among the flowers where the late afternoon light looks best.  Then I guide seniors into easy poses they feel comfortable with.

The arboretum is fun for everyone at the shoot including parents.  I like to take the time to look at our surroundings and let everyone enjoy the beauty of this place.  A shoot here will last around an hour and a half or two hours.  We get to walk and explore the gardens.  If anyone sees flowers they want to take a closer look at we stop and check it out.

I have a lot of favorite spots for landscape arboretum portraits depending on the season.  In the fall this wall of vines is often one of my first stops because of the amazing red and green colors.  The sunset light here is really sweet too.

Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Portraits with Hydrangeas

Another favorite spot for Minnesota Landscape Arboretum portraits is the giant Hydrangea.  It’s an Instagram worthy senior portrait backdrop to be sure.  The hydrangeas are incredible to stand next to.  It’s not often we get to experience a wall of flowers in the wild like this.

It’s important to know, we do walk a bit during senior portraits at the arboretum, but we stay close to the visitor’s center so you can change clothes easily.  When we start the session we meet up at the visitor’s center and look through all your clothes.  I help you choose outfits I think will work best with the natural surroundings.  Bring along your parent to your senior pictures also.  They can help to carry any extra shoes, things like your make up, or props you’re going to need while we’re out exploring and shooting.

New Prague Senior Pictures with lots of variety.

I think the best part about doing senior pictures at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is it’s different every time I go there.  What’s in bloom changes with the seasons.  Sometimes there are special featured gardens to enjoy.  There are so many trails between the gardens, waterfalls, bridges, fields, and trees.  There’s always something here that will delight you if you enjoy being outdoors.  Bridget saw the purple Russian Sage and loved it.

I love this session and am proud of Bridget for putting herself out there and getting her portraits done.  Like a lot of high school seniors I meet, Bridget said she didn’t want to make her portraits a big deal.  She had a good variety of outfits for me to look through.  We did tons of poses so she would have close-ups and naturally posed pictures not always looking at the camera.  Being in one location made things so simple.  She wanted something easy and fun, and that’s exactly what we did here.
